freedom : by jean

A few weekends ago we were over at Amy's to hang out.  While the dads watched the boys, Amy and I left the house to pick up some lunch for all of us.  As we walked out of the house, we yelled "freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and ran to the car all giddy.

We were free for the next 20-30mins.  We were allowed to only think about ourselves and did our quickest catch-up talk session which became one of the most productive sessions in a while.

The other day I had dropped my mom off at her friend's place and had to drive back to Brooklyn myself which rarely happens.  I had the next 45 minutes to myself to listen and sing to any music I wanted...while driving very safely!  I didn't have to sing "wheels on the bus" on repeat WITH the motions!

A lot of times when you have a child, many emphasize the importance of having date night.  Obviously, date night is important, and we should all date our husbands whenever we can.  However, just taking some time for yourself where you can be selfish and not have to think about anything else is also so crucial.  It seems like a basic idea but after the 20-30 minutes of freedom I had with Amy in the car, it really dawned upon me that I needed more of this for myself.

I know hiding in the bathroom and taking long showers at times are sometimes our only moments of freedom, but we should ALL take some time, whether short or long, to be selfish once in a while.

What are some of the things you do when you have a few precious moments to yourself?
